Touching no edge

  • In this artwork, my goal is to paint the ball with shadow without touching edge: using different color to show different shadow and different dimension.
  • I accomplished this artwork by sketching the shape of the ball and shadow first, and then I used different colors to draw light, dark, and medium shadows. I left red line between each shadows to emphasize the difference.
  • My paint is about using colors to express the shape and dimension.
  • The most difficult challenge is keeping red line between each shadows, and making the shadow looks real.
  • I meet the challenge by using pencils to map out red line and modifying the shape and build up from before.
  • The overexposed region of right side looks very special, and I like the appearance of that region.
  • In next painting, I will try to make the red line more clear and obvious.
  • Genna's painting is appealing to me because the gradual change of color indicate the light source.
  • If I can, I will redo the shadow of the ball, and making the red line more clear!
  • I feel best about the color chose of this painting.

  1. your pool ball resembles the planet Saturn. the blue stripe would probably go around the ball but a photograph wouldn't show that. The eye can detect what a camera cannot. that's how we can tell you painted frop a photo.
